ATFDs deliver continuous drying of heat-sensitive and viscous concentrates by spreading a thin film against a heated wall. Perfect downstream of MEEs in ZLD plants.
The Agitated Thin Film Dryer consists of a jacketed cylindrical body containing a high-speed rotor equipped with row-wise blades. The slurry or concentrate is distributed evenly on the heated inner wall by the rotor blades, creating a highly turbulent thin film.
As the material flows downward, the solvent or water evaporates rapidly under vacuum, and the concentration increases. The material transitions through viscous, pasty, and dry powder stages, which is scraped off continuously by the rotor tips and collected at the bottom product chamber.
By operating under deep vacuum, Haanka ATFDs lower the boiling point of the solvent, protecting heat-sensitive active ingredients from thermal degradation. This single-pass continuous operation is the benchmark solution for ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge) systems globally.
